My amazing husband bought me a Kindle for my birthday!
Happy dance! Happy dance!
I mentioned to him how I wanted one because I read tons of books for enjoyment and for reviews. I griped about having to sit in front of the computer to read the eBooks. I hated feeling tethered and I couldn't go anywhere and keep reading. *gasp!*
Now that I've played with it a bit, here's my thoughts.
John let me pick which Kindle device to buy. I chose the basic reader for a couple reasons. First, I don't need 3G. I plan on keeping plenty of books on my Kindle so I won't need to download books in an airport or someplace where the internet is $50.00 for an hour's worth of access. (Yes, I exaggerate the cost but doesn't it feel like robbery?) The second reason is I don't need 3,000 books in my reader's memory. I can delete books I've already read if I need to and still be able to download them off Amazon.com whenever I want. To me, the basic reader was the way to go.
I heard about the ads that are displayed on the Kindle. I was under the impression that the ads popped up in the books while I read. Well, that isn't how they work. The ads are your screen saver and at the bottom of the home page. While I cringe at paying $80.00 for something that shows me ads, they aren't intrusive to my reading and hey, if I want 80% off teeth whitening, I have the hook up!
I was delighted to start up my Kindle and see that there's a dictionary installed. I've considered buying one for homeschool (and I still might get paper copies for the kids' personal uses) but now I have one handy.
The reading screen is about the space of a page in a paperback book and the screen is vivid. I look forward to reading my first book!
Now that I have a Kindle, I need reading suggestions! If you know of an author I need to read, let me know in the comments.
